Position : SQL DBA

Location : Chesterfield, MO

Period : 6 months

Lead in the team effort to design, develop, implement or maintain database to accommodate user needs. Consult and collaborate with multiple teams to design database solutions, convert logical design into physical database, perform problem determination and resolution, and perform database design process and reviews. Day-to-day operation involves crisis management/critical escalations, customer onboarding, change management approvals and metrics reporting for the DBA team. The team lead would be responsible for scheduling, implementation, monitoring and day-to-day supervision. The team lead is also the technical go-to person with supervisory skills. Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience. 7 + years related experience.

This position will be contract to hire. (Six month contract)

Position Objectives:
Maintain 99.99% availability for all SAVVIS Hosting products and infrastructure and make sure all the DB related SLAs are met for uptime and support.
Technical point-of-escalation for the DBA team.
Interface with other central organizations to improve and implement process, procedures and automation.
Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements.
Technical interface between the DBA team and customers

Required skills:
Thorough knowledge of SQL Server 2008R2, 2012, 2014, and 2016 environments.
8+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration/support in SQL Server RDBMS 2008R2, 2012, 2014, and 2016 production environments.
Experience in setting up and maintaining production SQL Server cluster environments as well as AlwaysOn with Windows Failover Clustering and Availability Groups.
Strong database and clustering implementation experience and troubleshooting skills in mission critical environments.
Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of database internals, data structures, T-SQL, DTS/SSIS
Implementing and supporting log shipping, transactional replication and database mirroring
Good understanding of ITIL methodologies for change, incident and problem management
Strong communication skills and customer-support focused attitude

Desired Skills:
Implementing and supporting transparent data encryption (TDE) and secure socket layer (SSL)
Implementing and supporting peer-to-peer transactional replication
Basic Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2012 administration experience
Understanding of various 3rd party database monitoring and administration tools
Microsoft SQL Server certification
SQL Server Business Intelligence and OLAP
Experience with third-party backup and HA tools (SQLSafe, LiteSpeed, DoubleTake)
Familiarity with virtualization (VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V)

Education or Equivalent Experience:
Four year college degree in computer science or equivalent
Strong experience in operations

Position Requirements:
Provide Hosting Professional Services for customers with requirements that go beyond the normal scope of work
Documenting the support procedure, change request, Project plans.
Provide fourth level escalation support for Centurylink Support Center.
Working closely with other support organizations and their technical team leads to ensure delivery of database services within the performance targets set.
Defining and implementing consistent standards across systems.
Defining database configuration standards related to performance and sizing for both transactional and data warehouse databases.
Mentoring and knowledge transfer to other DBAs
Quick Learner and strong listening and communication skills.
Self-starter who can work in mission critical environments without any supervision.
Have ability and willingness to plug-in in different DBA operation roles across the company.
