Now we're looking for a Senior Single Seed Software Engineer to join our team and help lead the way. This unique role is an opportunity to be a primary contributor to the design and development of physical process automation software that controls our various proprietary single seed systems. You’ll work with a variety of automation and enterprise integration systems enabling the genetic characterization and selection of seeds that will feed a growing world.

The evolution of mechatronics, data connectivity, user experience, and supporting technologies has provided us with a toolset to create the next generation of our automation systems. These systems will be data driven and provide real-time results that drive the decision-making capabilities of other machines and people. This is an opportunity to assume hands on ownership of the design, development, integration, and support of the enabling hardware and software.

Responsibilities Include:
Design and development of single seed software systems
Ability to drive software development in all phases of the product lifecycle as part of a small multi-disciplined engineering team. This includes project planning, deriving requirements from system objectives, organizing and prioritizing work, and delivering results, and providing support.
Collaboration with engineering platform and engineering support teams to set prioritization of work
Interfacing IT and customer business units to ensure seamless enterprise integration of field automation platforms

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
Proven professional experience (typically 7+ years):
o Effectively communicating to technical and non-technical audiences
o Engaging business partners and stakeholders to drive requirements definition
o Learning domain specific technologies in order to build efficient and effective systems
o Driving success by analyzing, identifying, and taking action in a collaborative environment
o Succeeding in fast paced environments with multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines
o Delivering production quality, testable, re-usable software
Proven technical expertise (typically 7+ years):
o Developing automation or control system software in C# (3.0 and greater), Java, C++
o Developing machine controlling software systems
o Experience developing software interfacing motion controllers, linear/stepper/servo motors, drives, and PLCs
o Developing in the .NET ecosystem
o Experience interfacing web services (REST, SOAP)
o Developing multi-threaded/process applications and patterns associated with them.
o Developing networked software systems that communicate with data generating devices and data aggregation services (protocols over TCP/IP)

Desirable experience:
Experience using fieldbus protocols such as EtherCAT, SynqNet, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, Profibus, CANopen
Experience developing data-driven systems using relational and/or NoSQL database technologies such as Oracle, SQLite, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Cassandra
Experience with modern development tools such as Git, Jenkins, NuGet, JIRA
