Job Description :
Plant - Production Manager Position Description
· Leads and develops a multi-functional team (manufacturing, assembly, planning,
shipping, receiving and quality) to establish, communicate and achieve operational goals and
production standards in quality, production volume, inventory, cost, delivery, plant security,
compliance & Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
· Responsible for developing and meeting all key manufacturing metrics, such as
Variable Cost of Production (VCP), Product Quality performance, Cost of Quality, On Time
delivery & EHS metrics
· Establish daily and weekly communication routines in the factory to drive awareness
and ownership
· Participates directly in the conduct of industrial and labor relations including the local
union (UAW)
· Responsible for proper maintenance of property, building, plant and production
facilities
· Organizes repair and routine maintenance of production equipment, including
preventive maintenance program
· Works jointly with upper level management in establishment of shift standards,
headcount and working schedules for all departments connected with production
· Participates in long-range plant expansion, conversion, and equipment planning
· Maintains a favorable and productive environment for salaried and hourly unionized
employees.
· Provides operational leadership to create a working environment to drive excellence in
productivity, customer service, quality and Health, Safety and Environmental
· Develops and deliver annual operating plan actions within approved budget
· Implements initiatives for improvement in product quality, reduction of cycle times, and
improvement of inventory turns
· Works with HR to recruit, hire and coach employees, ensuring they are well trained to
perform their duties effectively
· Provides operational leadership needed to deliver profitable growth
· Leads efforts to develop and implement plans to meet or exceed requirements for
product quality, cost, and on time delivery
· Responsible for the day-to-day operations from reception of raw materials through the
delivery of final products
· Promotes the use of lean six-sigma methodology in driving plant improvements
· Develops, implement and sustain procedures and documents necessary to maintain
and improve operations
Requirements
· Must have demonstrated ability as a change agent combined with the ability to work at
all levels of the organization
· Bachelor''s Degree; required
· Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain Management or Engineering; preferred
· Certified Six Sigma Green or Black belt; preferred
· Minimum of 5 years of unionized workforce supervision; preferred
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in operations management of multiple product lines;
preferred
· Experience with manufacturing ERP / MRP systems and Lean continuous
improvement; required
