Overview
St. Jude is looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, learns rapidly and while at the same time is flexible. This position must effectively communicate, facilitate, and conduct work in a timely fashion. The Principal Web Portal Developer will be presenting and understand how to deal with groups of people, confrontation and change in a professional and productive manner. The ideal candidate will be an analytical, have strong critical thinking skills, and be able to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timeliness and budgets with business acumen.
The primary purpose of the Principal Web Portal Developer position is to provide web portal and web application programming and development in support of basic science research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (SJCRH The Principal Web Portal Developer will design and develop scientific web portal sites from concept all the way to completion from the bottom up, fashioning everything from the home page to site layout and function. The Principal Web Portal Developer position is responsible for the coding, innovative design and layout of scientific web portal sites in a hybrid on-premises and public Cloud environment. Responsibilities include collecting and creating web portal contents (copy, data, interactive data analysis and visualization tools, images, videos, etc, planning web portal site layout and navigation, coding the actual web portal pages and web applications, then testing and optimizing the web portal sites and web applications for superior user experience and optimum performance.
Minimum Experience
If a Bachelor's degree, eight (8) years of experience in web portal design/development and web-based application programming in a large enterprise environment is required
If a Master's degree, six (6) years of experience in web portal design/development and web-based application programming in a large enterprise environment is required
Top-notch programming skills and in-depth knowledge of modem HTML, CSS, JavaScript and mobile web frameworks is required
Expert level knowledge in how web applications work including security, session management, and development/deployment best-practices is required
Expert level knowledge in Web Components to make custom reusable elements for dynamic page features like tabbed widgets, image sliders, and dropdown menus is required
Expert level knowledge of interactive data visualization, web graphics and reporting for the Web (e.g., D3.js, Plotly, Chart,js, Three.js, jsreport, and other visualization, graphics and reporting libraries and platforms) is required
Hands-on experience with website diagnostics and analytics tools; and knowledge of search engine optimization processes is preferred.
Proficiency with UNIX/Linux scripting languages and one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Java, R, C/C++, or other high-level programming languages
Knowledge of relational/NoSQL database systems and Cloud technologies
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field is required
Master's degree in Computer Science, or a related field is preferred
Other Credentials
Registration, certification (or equivalent) in area of specialty preferred
