Roles & Responsibilities
· Develops proactive methodology for ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas
· Assist with computing environments both on-premises infrastructure and hybrid cloud (private cloud and public cloud like AWS)
· Work with development teams to troubleshoot and optimize queries and performance bottlenecks
· Develops security scheme(s) for the database environment; plan and test disaster recovery processes and procedures to meet business’s recovery point objective (RPO
· Install and configure new Postgres & RDSQL both adhoc and via automation where needed.
· Designing and implementation of Postgres & RDSQL replication using Master-Master, Master-Slave to support distributed loads (slony, bucardo, PGCluster, pgpool)
· Troubleshoot Postgres & RDSQL service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
· Performance tuning, Query Optimization and Performance monitoring using tool such as but not limited to PGAdmin, PGBagger.
· Identify and configure Postgres & RDSQL monitoring utilities/tools.
· Work with transaction processing to develop both physical and logical database administration functions
· Work closely with middleware application administrators to identify the database resource requirements and to improve operational processes.
· Deployment of database change scripts provided by in-house development team or third-party vendors
· When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including server resources, configuration changes, index and query changes etc.
· Work with members of Engineering and IT to build logical database documentation and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process
· Work with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies
· Train, mentor and develop Jr level DBAs, technical support staff and applications staff
