Job Description :

Federate Systems is looking for a Senior Oracle DBA to support one of our federal clients. Selected candidate will provide support for the design, implementation, security, availability, performance, maintenance, and operational support for databases. The candidate must be proficient in administrating Oracle databases and familiar with administrating DB2 and/or MS SQL Servers. The successful candidate must have experience in working at an expert and SME level database administration conducting technical operations. The ideal candidate should come from operations background, and have the ability to work with application developers, technical SMEs, functional managers, and federal government stakeholders. Experience with Cloud-based databases such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, etc. is a plus.

Provide support as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in database administration (preferably in Oracle) working on problems of diverse scope and complexity
Plan and install upgrades of Database Management Systems (DBMS) software as necessary to enhance database performance
Mange database instances, database storage, and database security
Perform database tuning, backup, and recovery
Review application and database design decisions to ensure that application solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and reliability upon deployment
Provide technical expertise in database area throughout the life cycle of projects, and propose and implement enhancements to improve performance and reliability
Maintain responsibility for all aspects of database administration such as maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting databases as well as hardware/software/interfaces and performing bug fixes and security patches
Support Information Assurance (IA) activities to ensure that solutions are compliant with government IT security, NIST 800-53, and FISMA standards
Complete/update Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) artifacts, as required
Comply with configuration and release management process


At least six (6) years of experience in database administration and production support primarily in Oracle
Experience with Oracle RAC 12c, Enterprise Manager, and Oracle Data Guard
Experience with UNIX based environment and Shell scripting
Experience with database networking security, including PKI certificate and SSL
Experience with Cloud-based databases such as AWS, Azure, etc.
Familiar with MS SQL Server & DB2
Familiar with WebSphere, SAS, Java, and Business Objects
Have working knowledge of Federal Information Assurance standards
Have working knowledge of conducting unit and application testing
Experience in software release and deployment processes
Good verbal and written communication skills
Have excellent documentation skills
Convey technical concepts to non-technical executives and managers
Act as part of a structured operations team in support of resolving technical issues
Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills, the ability to operate autonomously, acute attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Work closely with business leads with external user groups and internal development and deployment teams
Interface with external customers to provide technical expertise throughout the SDLC
Keep abreast of emerging technologies and make appropriate recommendations regarding the enhancement of the application functionality to capitalize on industry changes
Experience in developing SDLC documentation; agile methodologies preferred
