Application Architect Job Description
Provides technical expertise and leadership in application design, development, implementation, management, and modernization by applying state-of-the-art industry technology into the overall design thus ensuring operational support of the application.
Responsible for documenting the architecture for all deployed applications.
o Includes connectivity, interfaces, etc. between servers, systems, applications, COTS products, and between agencies. These architectural documents will be critical as the Department looks to maintain, modernize, and enhance the applications.
Responsible for ensuring all applications upgraded, patched, enhanced, and modernized in a timely and proactive manner to meet the Departments standards. As applications are updated, will work with the various areas of OIT, including application development staff and operation support staff, to schedule the work, conduct tests, and evaluate the test results to ensure the updates are compatible with all systems/applications and can be integrated without disrupting the operations of the Department.
Works collaboratively with the various parts of Office of Information Technology (OIT) to enhance the utilization of existing application components to maximize investments and optimize the current infrastructure, thus reducing the cost of operating the information technology systems that support the department.
Understand business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), and determine corresponding enterprise system designs and change requirements to drive the organization's targeted business outcomes.
As part of the architecture design process this position will work with the application development teams and operational support staff to establish the application development standards that will be used to develop and maintain the application. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying the coding language Net, Java), COTS products, separation of application components, and the number of application development environments that will be used during the application development phases and the application enhancement/maintenance phases. Establishing enterprise development standards will allow application to be more easily supported and reduce the cost to develop and maintain applications.
