Job Description :

This position will provide Tier 2 network operations in support of DIT Network services.

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) serves as the Technology Center for the State of NC. Services that DIT provides reach a client base of state and local government agencies, as well as schools, colleges and universities. This position will provide Tier 2 network operations in support of DIT Network services. The responsibilities are include:

Analysis and resolution of Wide Area and Local Area Network incidents and problems, provisioning new network services, determining root cause, recommending and implementing corrective actions and improvement plans. Utilize sound analysis, troubleshooting, and implementation skill sets to insure all customer service level agreements are being met or exceeded. Follow work processes and procedures to ensure a quick and effective resolution to technical problems. Utilize established processes to efficiently process requests for new services. This position will also be part of an on-call rotation and may also involve shift work. Occasional travel to remote locations in support of DIT network operations.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge and experience supporting Cisco routing and switching technologies such as EIGRP, OSPF, MPLS, and VRF, Ethernet, Virtual LANs (VLAN), Wireless, 802.1X, 802.11A/B/G, WPA / WPA2, and HSRP.

Experience configuring layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing in a larger enterprise environment in support of daily business operational requirements.

Utilize troubleshooting skills independently investigate customer concerns and resolve complex network issues across a variety of network router and switch platforms.

Strong customer service focus.

Willing to provide on-call and after-hours support as needed to maintain network availability.



*The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred: *

Experience supporting a 24x7 Network Operations Center and experience with network analysis tools such as CA Spectrum, Solarwinds, NetFlow, HPNA, VitalSuite, Spectrum, and other Web-based monitoring tools

Understanding of TCP/IP networking protocols such as IP Subnetting, DNS, and DHCP protocols.

Certification as a CompTIA Net+, CCENT, CCNA / CCNP is highly desirable but not required.

Knowledge and basic understanding of ITIL framework is a plus.



MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of progressive experience in telecommunications network management, analysis, or design, or traffic engineering;

or Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of networking related experience such as network design, analysis or network management;

or Associate's degree in Electronics or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of networking related experience;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
