Hardware Design Engineer II

Overview The company is seeking a hardware design engineer to work on a variety of hardware development tasks that add value to our line of products. You will be involved with every aspect of the Hardware Development Life Cycle. We have many new design and next generation projects which will challenge you to apply your skills with the following technologies:

Analog and Digital I/O
Asynchronous and Synchronous serial communications
USB bus
PCI and PCIe bus
CPLD and FPGA
VHDL
Smart devices
Package design
The successful candidate will be an integral part of our staff which develops asynchronous and synchronous serial communication hardware, industrial computers, analog and digital IO hardware, and related systems for a wide range of customers, working independently and as part of small development teams. Electrical engineers typically team with our software engineers on projects. Our engineers usually work on two or more projects at once and are responsible for all relevant artifacts, including requirements and design documentation. As many of our tasks are short-term, engineers are continually exposed to new technologies and have opportunities to expand into other areas of interest. Reporting Relationship The position will report to the Vice President of Engineering. The primary responsibilities of the hardware design engineer are:

Complete entire life cycle of programs including new business capture, preliminary and detail design, fabrication, integration and test, manufacturing and customer support
Assist in defining system requirements and architectures, to include, preparing bids and proposals, plan and lead projects utilizing cross-functional teams
Participation in peer audits of schematics, mechanical packaging, and standards compliance
Lead printed circuit board designs, document designs, select and procure components
Perform circuit designs and analysis, develop, code and simulate programmable devices
Provide direction to manufacturing in the assembly of first printed circuit board assemblies
Test and debug first assemblies, integrate and test with embedded software or in sub-systems
Assistance in the resolution of hardware/software compatibility issues
Work also involves addressing production issues including parts procurement, assembly and electrical performance
Ownership of new revisions of existing software products
Participation is continuous product development process improvement
Ownership of regulatory testing of assigned products (FCC, CE, etc
Previous Experience The ideal candidate will have experience in electronic hardware development. Additionally, they should possess:

Bachelor''s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience in related field
3+ years'' experience in electronic circuit design and layout
General familiarity with digital hardware is required from the gate-level to PLDs
Must have hardware integration, test and debug experience
Proficiency in a current CAD tool
Excellent interpersonal skills, written, oral and presentation skills
Experience managing budgets and schedules
Skills to fabricate, test and debug prototype designs
The ability to use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, function generators is required
Track record of driving improvement with quantified results
US Citizenship or green card holder
Preferred

Experience with Altium Designer a plus
Experience with digital and analog circuit design and layout
Experience designing USB bus-based products
Experience designing PCIe bus-based products
Experience with Atmel, FTDI, and Freescale chipsets
Experience working in an ISO 9000 company
Experience designing various serial bus and control interfaces
Knowledge of VHDL or Verilog and experience in developing firmware for CPLDs or FPGAs is also a plus.
