NFIP Mapping Specialist, Hyattsville, MD

Description of position and Primary Responsibilities:

This position requires the ability to interpret FEMA flood hazard maps (FIRMs) for the purpose of maintaining the NFIP Community Master File data base.
This includes the ability to read flood maps, preliminary flood hazard data, Letters of Map Change, Elevation Certificates, and the National Flood Hazard Layer.
Additional responsibilities include the following:
Technical assistance to WYO Companies and the DSA Contractor.
Resolve mapping inquiries and problems referred by FEMA, policyholders, agents, WYOs, and others.
Provide quality control over deliverables and work products.
Supports FEMA ad hoc requests.
Perform administrative and office support duties assigned by leads and manager. Duties may include data entry, word processing, and creating/updating spreadsheets.


Position Requirements:

Associate Degree required (Bachelor Degree preferred) with successful undergraduate coursework in Geographic Information Systems and/or Computer Science
Working knowledge of FEMA flood hazard maps (FIRMs)
Strong experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel and Word
Excellent customer service skills and communication skills
Aptitude to follow written procedures and processes
Ability to multi-task and work in production environment
Excellent organization skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
Must be US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance


Nice to have:

Interest in pursuing Associate in National Flood Insurance (ANFI) designation
Prior experience working with Microsoft SharePoint

This is a full time position paying a base salary, full benefits, and has possible bonus potential based on merit and performance
