Role: Mainframe Capacity Engineer
Interview Process: F2F after Telephony


The mainframe capacity planner responsible for capacity planning, configurations and efficient usage of enterprise mainframe servers. Client needs to conduct performance and capacity analysis of critical applications and systems running on the z/OS platform. This lead engineer will develop capacity models for existing and new workloads/services and support the development of the enterprise capacity plan.

Tasks:
Develop and maintain capacity plans for all z/OS platform critical systems & applications.
Develop capacity models for new products
Perform "what if” scenario analysis (changes in volume, changes in applications, changes in technology) to support business decisions, forecast infrastructure needs, and budgeting.
Use SAS and/or MXG to develop reports supporting performance and capacity reports
Support the design and development of an enterprise capacity repository
Work with other areas to maintain appropriate and correct MIPS for software level, implement, and monitor group LPAR softcaps.
Provide hands on technical support for incident assessment and resolution for restoration of service. Support problem Root Cause Analysis (RCA
Take a lead in defining and developing a repository of enterprise capacity/performance key metrics.
Lead and participate in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of system engineering activities.
Support the development of cost models
Provide consulting services for z/OS performance and capacity initiatives
Analyze and recommend improvements to the scalability and resiliency of applications and systems running on Z platform.

Specific Required Skills:
Infrastructure engineer with a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience supporting IBM z/OS Systems in a SYSPLEX environment with:
a. 8+ years of IBM z/OS capacity planning experience
b. Proficient with RMF, RMF Tools and Monitor III usage and functions, SMF, and system monitors to perform z/OS and subsystem performance and capacity analysis.
c. Required excellent knowledge in SAS and MXG, statistical and analytical skills. AIX/NMON desirable, especially from MXG. Very desirable running SAS/MXG from Windows or other non-Z platform.
d. Knowledge of configuring and trouble-shooting IBM WLM (service classes, reporting classes, performance goals, capacity capping, and velocities, etc)
e. Experience in MQ, CICS, DB2, and DB2 distributed
f. Experience in TMON or other mainframe z/OS system monitors
g. Working knowledge of network communication protocols (TCPIP)
h. Excellent knowledge of hardware infrastructure IBM z13, EMC/VMAX, DLM and HCD.
i. Experienced in analytical modeling like IBM zPCR , zCP3000, BMC CMM Predict or or other modeling tools.
j. Business application workload sizing and capacity forecasting
k. Lead/participate in resolution of complex z/OS problems
l. Strong skills to effectively communicate complex technology solutions across diverse audiences including technical, managerial, business executives, and vendors.

Systems Mainframe platforms and their associated Operation Systems and Tools including: (Nice to have)
1. SYSPLEX and ICF configuration and tuning. Experience in de-coupling Sysplex environment is a plus.
2. Systems Engineer Hands on Experience for z/OS, CICS, and MQ
3. Experience with Middleware interfaces such as AIX, WebSphere, Networks, LDAP is preferred
