MS SQL Server Database Administrator
Job Summary:
The Microsoft SQL Server database administrator will be part of a team responsible for managing 600+ SQL Server databases in a Fortune 500 multinational corporation. In addition to supporting all aspects of SQL Server database administration, this position will also be providing expert advice to application development and business teams in defining, implementing, protecting, and maintaining complex SQL Server databases.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide SQL Server database administration services including license tracking, capacity planning,
installation, maintenance, performance tuning, security administration, and on call support
Develop and maintain database standards, operational policies and procedures, and ensure they are
adhered to
Develop and deploy backup and disaster recovery solutions to meet business continuity requirements
Develop and deploy proactive approaches to database monitoring and maintenance
Lead the monthly database operations review (service-level agreements, database health, system
resource usage, etc and identify steps to take before problems occur
Provide direction, guidance, and technical support to clients, applications, and operations areas
Coordinate with internal compliance and external audit firms (e.g. KPMG, Ernst & Young) to streamline
Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) status reporting and audit efforts
Basic Qualifications:
Experience supporting SharePoint, Team Foundation Server, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL
Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Citrix, EMC ApplicationXtender,
Cognos Content Store/Audit
SQL Server virtualization and consolidation using VMWare
Backup and disaster recovery using SQL Server Native Backup/Restore, SQL Replication, SQL Server Log
Shipping
Database cluster installation and administration using SQL Server AlwaysOn, Active/Passive and
Active/Active
Database performance monitoring, analysis, and tuning using SolarWinds Database Performance
Analyzer
Experience setting up transparent data encryption (TDE)
Strong inter-personal and communication skills including written and verbal
Self-starter who is able to work alone or as a member of a team
Experience working with multiple clients and projects at a time
Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or related field
10+ years SQL Server database administration experience with SQL Server (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2014,
2016) databases in a database administrator role
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Oracle client installation and configuration
Experience supporting SAP Business Planning & Consolidation, Primavera P6
Familiarity with IT asset management tools, e.g. System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Flexera
