Database Programmer

Description:

This position will support the Data Analysis & Planning unit in administering the Stormwater Plan Review Database (SWPRDB) system. Developed in 2009, the SWPRDB runs on a SQL Server 2008 backend with an Access 2016 user interface. Primarily used to track internal workflows and permit compliance data, the database represents a core critical function of the Department. Although DA&P is the primary database administer and owner, this position will be responsible for ensuring continued SWPRDB functionality through routine maintenance and updates in order to support the needs of several user groups. In addition, the Department is engaged in the development of a data warehouse/business intelligence solution (known as The Hub) that will extract, load and transform data from the SWPRDB as part of a regulatory obligation with the State and Federal government. In order to ensure continuity of both The Hub and SWPRDB throughout the coming year, this position will facilitate the implementation of any necessary modifications or upgrades to the database that may be required to guarantee the successful launch of The Hub.



The Database Programmer will also act as a subject matter expert to support the redevelopment of the SWPRDB as a web-based application. This project will include requirements gathering, competitive bidding and evaluation and the contracting of resources to development and implement the new system. In this role, the Database Programmer will provide technical expertise on the current system and attend meetings as-needed with the project team.

Maintain and update the existing Microsoft Access UI and SQL Server 2008 database
Developing system modifications and upgrades
Modifying and maintaining ODBC connections
Provide detailed documentation of upgrades and modifications
Troubleshoot and correct program and user issues
Identifying and packaging fixes
User support
Meeting attendance
Implementation documentation
Testing
General technical support and guidance
Updates to projects, meetings, and status export routines
Development and integration of expedited review tracking
Integrate numeric values into Stormwater Management Practices (SMP) summary views
Development and integration of an enforcement tracking stage
Update migration routines
Expand standardized reporting queries
Establish and implement user groups
Ensure ongoing compatibility with RamSys DW/BI solution
Monthly progress reports
Technical documentation



Skills/experience REQUIRED of the assigned staff:

Advanced experience writing and modifying Tables, Views, Stored Procedures and Triggers using SQL Server 2008
Extensive Advanced Experience in Microsoft Access 2010
Extensive Advanced Experience in Microsoft Visual Basic
Excellent communication skills
Active Directory
