JOB DESCRIPTION

Federate Systems is looking for a Senior Documentation Specialist to support one of our federal clients in Washington, DC. The selected candidate must be able to effectively develop, prepare and/or maintain documentation pertaining to business processes, systems operation, product development, customer communications and other technical or non-technical processes as required. The ability to set and meet targets and/or deadlines is also very important as most assignments have a limited time frame.

The candidate will research, review, and collect available technical information as basis for documentation. The candidate creates new documentation or updates existing documentation to accurately reflect changes in a product or process. This candidate writes and maintains end user documentation or online instructional content. The candidate develops a strong understanding of the technical details of the products or processes that are being documented. The candidate reports to management or the designee. The candidate will contribute to moderately complex aspects of an assignment that requires input or direction from the Federal representative. The expected work is generally independent and collaborative with a project team to collect specific information from the team in order to create and/or update documentation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works well with the customer and other supporting teams and contractors.
Assist with editing and formatting technical and non-technical documentation.
Draft, expand, refine and edit end user communication documentation to ensure it is easy to read, comprehensive, and a compliant document(s
Frequent interaction with Director, team members and leadership.
Interact with technical team members to gather information for content development.
Become familiar and comply with government style guides.
Outstanding communications, writing, editing, proofreading, and grammar skills.
Writes detailed policy and procedure documents based on discussions with process owners and identification / creation of process flows with an emphasis on accuracy and compliance with business needs.
Writes Statements of Work and other procurement related artifacts. In most cases approved templates already exist.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree with 8 to 12 years of experience, preferably in Technical Writing, English, or Journalism. Years of experience may be considered a substitute for a degree.
Candidate must have demonstrated experience in a Documentation Specialist and/or Technical Writing role.
Possess the knowledge to recommend or independently develop artifacts.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills is a must.
Experience working in a Federal workspace with Federal leadership is desired.
Proficient in oral communication in simple English language.
High level of proficiency in Excel, Word, Access, Email and SharePoint.
Maintain Master Document Control Listing and ensure compliance with documentation procedures.
Provide research assistance to management and assist with other assignments or projects on an as needed basis.
Escalations to the program manager or designee as well as inclusion of all deliveries to our customer is a must.
