DESCRIPTION:
The Datacenter Engineer works for and under the general direction of the Manager, Infrastructure Engineering, Online Business Unit. Responsibilities include installing and troubleshooting network, systems or storage hardware and electrical and data wiring. installing, implementing and administering systems and providing Tier III support.
Working familiarity with Unix systems administration with hands-on experience as well as network administration. This person will work within a small team of systems engineers to provide support for multiple 24x7, high volumes, and transaction-oriented Web sites. Responsibilities include site and systems support, trouble-shooting of hardware, software and network related issues, monitoring and managing online applications, and coordination of issue identification and resolution. Team is responsible for maintaining the highest stability and best possible performance of multiple large-scale, LINUX/UNIX based, online retail websites.
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor and manage the 24x7 operation of multiple high volumes Client web sites to ensure highest stability, availability and customer experience.
Plan and perform hardware, software and cabling installation and upgrades, preventative maintenance, high availability, disaster recovery failover and deployments (systems, storage and network devices Coordinate with other engineers, vendors, development, business partners and escalation support teams as needed, all to follow the approval and change management processes.
Utilize third-party and custom monitoring tools to monitor, test and proactively identify problems with hardware devices; provide reports and action plans to resolve issues, and implement those plans.
Perform detailed, post event analysis of unusual or suspicious incidents, and direct needed procedure or process changes in response.
Maintain regular backup of operating systems and tools and perform recovery operations as needed.
Work closely with other members of the Engineering Department to ensure that systems issues and project milestones are met in a timely manner.
Develop, follow and enforce processes needed to maintain operational stability, security and site reliability and protect the user experience.

SKILLS/EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
HS diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
Basic Unix and network/Internet fundamentals.
Working experience with HP DL and Blade servers and Chassis (Generation 7 and above) a plus
Scripting abilities and Unix tools to automate administration, such as python and Ansible, especially desired.

Years of Experience: 1-2+years experience
Preferred Minimum Education: HS diploma or GED
Travel Requirements: Localized within Chicago land between the
datacenters.
