Please find the attached position description for new position need for our IL EDW Project. We are looking for a strong DBA with strong lead skills to drive the data management area.

CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUATED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Required Skills:

? 5+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA on Version 14+

? 5+ years logical and physical data modeling experience

? 5+ years ETL using Teradata Utilities in a Unix/Linus environment

? 5+ years performance tuning in a large database (>5TB) or data warehouse environment, using advanced SQL, DBQL and Explain plans

? 3+ years analyzing project requirements and developing detailed database specifications

? 3+ years identifying and initiating resolutions to customer problems and concerns associated with a Data Warehouse or equivalent system

? Excellent verbal/written communication, end client facing, and team collaboration skills

? Mentoring co-workers

? Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Preferred Skills:

? Installing, configuring and administering Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher platforms on HP DLT Servers

Following are the detail notes for the position:

Primary Job Responsibilities:

· Developing and analyzing highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance

· Evaluating products and upgrades for appropriateness and lead the implementation and upgrade strategies.

· Creating / Modifying the database tables, views, or other database objects to support the projects and change requests that impact the Data Warehouse

· Supporting Teradata patch and upgrades collaborating with Teradata team and interfacing with the application sub vendors

· Supporting backup and restore/retrieval process – using the BAR DSA and NetBackup. Create, implement, and maintain BAR strategy for the Teradata (TD) application and system databases.

· Maintaining rules set in TASM and supporting workload management. Maintaining the Teradata Workload Manager with the proper partitions and workloads based on Service Levels.

· Maintaining Teradata Query manager to automate many of the DBA tasks such as collection of statistics, monitoring spool space, candidate tables for purge, etc.

· Supporting the database system and application server support for the Disaster Recovery (DR) build/test, annual drill, and quarterly maintenance as needed

· Performing Teradata SQL troubleshooting and fine tuning of scripts

· Supporting database or system issues reported by Helpdesk or business users

· Actively monitoring the health of the Teradata system and Teradata Managed Servers (TMS) using Viewpoint and other tools and application servers and make preventive or corrective actions as needed

· Maintaining access rights, role rights, priority scheduling, and reporting using dynamic workload manager, Database Query Log (DBQL), usage collections and reporting of ResUsage, AmpUsage, security administration etc.

· Supporting remote logging process and maintaining the logs

· Supporting data needs using QueryGrid 2.0

· Coordinating with the team and customers in supporting database needs and make necessary changes to meet the business, contractual, security, performance, and reporting needs

· Supporting internal or external audit process and address vulnerabilities or risk proactively. Prepare and support IRS audit

· Coordinating with Teradata to perform Teradata system hardening and delivery SCSEM Reports as needed addressing issues in the hardening and vulnerability scan report

· Generating and maintaining capacity management, Space, and CPU reports on analyzing the Spool, CPU, I/O, Usage, and Storage resources and proactive monitoring to meet performance and growth requirements

· Reviewing and resolving Teradata alerts and communicate any risk or impact to the team and business users through appropriate communication strategy

· Creating Teradata incident on issues, tracking using TAYS, setting appropriate priorities, monitoring and controlling, and work with Teradata to resolve the issues promptly

· Providing weekly status update and update the weekly status report with the summary of database related activities including maintenance and issues.



· Analyzing project requirements and develop detailed specifications for new and existing data warehouse database related requirements

· Reviewing and validating the database related test scenarios and results and incorporating extensive knowledge of the Agency’s business rules.

· Developing or acquiring test data and initiate tests to determine the accuracy of database logic to produce desired results.

· Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, with programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users, operations, other State agencies and the private sector.

· Meeting with users for clarification and elaboration as may be necessary to clearly define a problem and conceptualize a development plan. Recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and devise solutions and alternatives and make appropriate recommendations.

· Working with the team and data modelers, facilitate modification of the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the business needs of the customer.

· Working with Developers and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team to create and maintain database standards.

Additional Notes:

· Proven experience and progressive growth of Teradata / database related skills and strong communication and presentation skills is desirable and could be very helpful in winning the position

· Recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and devise solutions and alternatives and make appropriate recommendations

· Ability to work with end users / customers to understand the database requirements

· Ability to quickly learn new business area or technical skills based on project needs

· Ability to understand performance or security considerations - able to debug and correct database related issues very promptly

· Ability to design applications taking into consideration the business needs and database needs to support query or analytics / reporting performance.

· Needs to be able to work independently and not rely on the State or other team members to learn Database Administration - need someone at Senior level

· Experienced working in multiple database or Teradata utilities or related software like Teradata SQL Assistant, SLES, and Viewpoints, BAR, DSA, TASM, SWS, Teradata Managed Servers (TMS), Viewpoint, FASTLOAD, MULTILOAD, TPUMP, SQL, PDCR, TAYS, QueryGrid, NFS Mount Point

· Ability to be flexible to adapt to changes, supporting continuous improvement, easy to work with, and perform multiple responsibilities as required by the project team
