Strong Communicator (needs to be able to command a room)
7+ years in Data Domain experience
Strong Data (Architecture, Product Manager, Data focused
Strong SQL (Must be 10 out of 10 with SQL queries)
Strong requirements gathering (defining and refining requirements)
Must be able to speak with Engineers
Must be able to guide teams
Data Solutions
Strong technical skills using Oracle PL/SQL, SQL Developer or similar, NOSQL
Direct feedback from manager below regarding what the previous candidates have been missing so far.
We have 4 open positions… all needing the same skill set.
The misses to date across many candidates we’ve considered are…
Not a cultural fit – need to be flexible and able to give us confidence that you can (1) command a room, (2) can understand the audience and speak tech to techies and biz to business folks… in the details with developers and do-ers and in summary with executives and planners
Not ‘data’ enough - candidates say that they have data skills but don’t know how to query data… we need this… it can’t be that they’ve developed reports in Cognos or some other BI tool… that’s not the level of data interaction we’re looking for… they need to know select blah from blah join on blah where blah
Not ‘documentable’ – these folks have to work with our business to understand their needs… then translate that into data needs… at a file and structure level… and then work with developers to make that come to life; if the candidate is a developer that wants to do this type of work… I’m not interested
I am a scientist and know the tech – I’m not looking for a mathematician or stats person
