Responsibilities
DB2 Administrator

The Worker will be responsible for installing, configuring, designing, administering, maintaining, developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the agency databases; including patching, upgrading, and installation. This role optimizes the DB2 data environment by keeping databases finely tuned (queries/tables/indexes), by automating incoming and outgoing data feeds, and by troubleshooting any data access problems. Work is accomplished in a highly collaborative environment and independently with a focus on quality and customer service.

Resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues
Designs, builds, configures, and administers Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS’s)
Supports software developers with database operations including the development of complex SQL, tuning of DML, and the creation of stored procedures
Develops strategies configuration, backup/recovery, high-availability, and disaster recovery solutions for DBMS’s on Unix based platforms
Troubleshoots existing DBMS’s by monitoring and diagnosing performance related issues
Works with Database Architect to deploy and fine-tune test databases for the purpose of production validation.
Installs and configures RDBMS software
Recommends and coordinates the upgrading and patching DBMS’s
Works with other departments to streamline data processes
Supports star schema data warehouse
Supports full life-cycle development (architecture, development, network, and software releases)
Strong ability to create custom scripts (SHELL, Python)


Qualifications
Requirements:

Skills/Experience

Experience working in a UNIX/LINUX environment (including writing shell scripts and commands)
Experience with logical and physical database design
Experience as a Database Administrator in a Java development environment
Experience developing stored procedures, scripting, SQL, and optimizing SQL calls
Information technology, database administration, computer system analysis, computer programming, or closely related experience
Experience supporting application development teams
Considerable knowledge of software development life cycle methodologies
Skill in identifying and resolving problems using strong analytical techniques, innovative approaches, and taking initiative in preventing and solving problems
Skill in effectively sharing accurate information both orally and in writing
Experience with IBM DB2 v8.x or above
Experience with DB2 LUW


Preferred:

Skills/Experience

Experience in providing technical support for system architecture planning and design
Experience in WebSphere Portal database support
Experience in WebSphere Process Server database support
Experience with any of the following tools: Rational RequisitePro, Rational ClearCase, Rational ClearQuest, TOAD and InfoSphere Data Architect
Experience working in Public Sector with PII data
Experience with the Texas Child Support Program



Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or closely related discipline


IBM Certified DB2 9.X DBA LUW
