Nature And Scope:

This position reports to the supervisor of computer operators along with the
lead operators and the junior operators.

This position is responsible for the overall processing of data on a
specifically designated shift. Incumbent will respond to requests from the
scheduled job steps needed to process data through the shift.
Within this framework the incumbent''s primary interactions are within data
processing. In the absence of a lead operator the operator will interface
with the operations analyst, production scheduler, and the D.A.S.D. & tape
administrator for purpose of problem solving and production processing.
The incumbent coordinates closely with the lead operator for direction and
guidance through the completion of each shift.

In order to satisfactorily meet the requirements of this position, it is
expected that the incumbent''s background would include an associates degree
in data processing or equivalent and 3-4 years related computer operator
experience preferably in "MVS" environment; or 1 year formal training beyond
high school and 5-6 years related computer operator experience.

The Incumbent Should Possess:

Expert knowledge of the time sharing option (TSO) and interactive system
production facility (ISPF
Working knowledge of specific software supporting packages.
In-depth knowledge of network operations.
Knowledge of problem reporting and change control functions.
Technical skills in operating systems and subsystems.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Analyze production failures and follow the steps necessary to resolve
problem.
2. Monitor production environment for possible bottle-necks within the
system and recommend means of improvement.
3. Coordinate with previous shift and next shift to complete a smooth
transition of turnover.
4. Monitor on-line network to assure minimum down time for outlying areas.
5. Continuous updating of incident log relating to all problems for
incumbent''s shift.
6. Backup for lead operator.
