Role: Cobol Programmer
Location: Madison, WI

Description
Cobol programmer independently designs and makes modifications to complex application programs. Code, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains programs. Programmer is expert in programming language and has a good understanding of how data is related across multiple databases, tables and platforms. Programmer must be able to communicate with others to interpret the needs of users/clients when working on application programming. Provides technical leadership to other developers.
Job Responsibilities
Provide leadership on project and maintenance work
Design, Code, test and maintain applications that process business data
Lead programming efforts on large projects
Assist Quality Assurance teams in testing of applications
Mentor/ provide support to less experienced programmers and consultants
Peer review code and technical documents for other team members
Participate in On-call rotation to resolve applications failures
Assist in research and issue resolution for processing of business data
Monitor and trouble-shoot system performance, resolve issues (on-call issues, performance issues, etc and coordinate with respective support teams to resolve software and hardware issues
Lead or participate in creation of, advise and/or approve Functional and Detail Design Documents
Create technical specifications for new and modified code
Assist Quality Assurance Analysts and Client Support Analysts for client testing of developed interfaces
Develop automated processes and schedule with job scheduling support and related software
Utilize source control software to maintain integrity of production software, including prior versions of code
Follow defined Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and ChangeControl processes
Develop and maintain system level documentation
Coordinate development activities with other teams, e.g. database management, infrastructure configuration, quality assurance testing
Demonstrate effective communications skills, verbal and written, while working with all levels of people
Education and Experience Requirement
Bachelor Degree in Data processing, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field OR equivalent post high school education and/or work related experience
Four (4 )or more years of experience in Application Development working with CICS, Batch, and VSAM
DB2 Backend experience highly preferred
