We are currently interviewing for the following CONTRACT TO HIRE position in PLANO, TX:

* Must be hands-on and strategic. Big Data Architect


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Broad knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D and/or practical experience in a scientific domain (e.g. Chemistry)
Provide leadership and direction for the implementation of capabilities of the Big Data Platform
Research and recommend tools and technologies for the R&D Information Platform
Stay abreast of new technologies and solutions in the Big Data arena
Demonstrated skill in delivering solutions that integrate commercial off-the-shelf products
Strong knowledge of industry standards and technology platforms aligned to Pharma and R&D roadmaps
Proven experience in solution architecture processes, practices, and guidelines
Understands continuous integration and delivery methods for Big Data platforms
Extensive experience in management of outsourced resources and IT vendors


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES:

Minimum Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree, and / or the areas of specialization and practical on the job-related Data Solution Architecture education and experience as described in this and the experiences section of this job evaluation form.
Area of Specialization: Preference will be provided to individuals with certifications in Hadoop Administration in Data Solution Architectures.
Preferred Level of Education: Master’s degree or above, and / or the areas of specialization and practical on the job-related education experience as described in this and the experiences section of this job evaluation form.
Area of Specialization: Combination of technical and strong business communication skills with the ability to lead the integration of a data solution architecture on highly technical areas such as social media analytics and big data analytics


JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Level of Job-Related Experience required Architecture and Design:
Experience designing and building complex, high performance data ingestion pipelines using Big Data technologies.
Ensures that solutions comply with approved architectural standards and strategic vision Understanding of streaming vs. batch ingestion patterns, trade-offs and implementation intricacies.
Very thorough understanding of Hadoop security, Kerberos, TLS/SSL encryption, Sentry
Experience and understanding of various third-party vendor solutions such as StreamSets, H2O, BI reporting solutions, ETL solutions etc., search engines.
Deep understanding of Hadoop storage and compute frameworks – Key Value stores, wide column stores, mutable vs. immutable stores, document stores.
Deep understanding of consistency, availability and performance guarantees provided by various Hadoop components and how they apply to use cases
Deep understanding of software design principles, architecture approaches, design best practices etc.
Deep understanding of RDBMS concepts – SQL competency is required
Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts, shared nothing architectures
Experience gathering and understanding business requirements and integrating them into the data solution architecture
Seeks to design solutions that minimize support burden yet still meet business needs
Experience with software version control, configuration management and release management principles.


TECHNOLOGY:

Working knowledge of setting up and running Hadoop clusters
In-depth knowledge of capacity planning, performance management and troubleshooting for of various Hadoop components.
Must have experience with monitoring tools used in the Hadoop ecosystem such as Cloudera Manager, Nagios etc.
Develops architectural designs for large/complex project teams or programmers working on business solutions. Designs will be implementations of Target Architecture and Information Architectures that are flexible, scalable, extensible, efficient, supportable, easy to use, and meet business requirements and standards.
Creates production-ready technical solutions and relevant documentation
Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Scala, C++.
Experience with at least one of the following scripting languages: Python, Bash, Perl
Strong understanding and experience with Linux internals and administration
Strong understanding of Linux Filesystem management


MISCELLANEOUS:

Consulting background and/or comfort in working with customers
Experience reviewing and critiquing architecture design and approaches,
Experience reviewing and critiquing source code
Experience providing technical leadership to a team of engineers/architects
This experienced person will interface with various roles within IT and R&D. The RDIP system serves as the backbone for analytics within R&D Pharma. This experienced role will be a key contributor to enabling new capabilities and sustaining current ones as it relates to the platform. Speed and deep working knowledge is critical for success in this role. The ability to architect and develop technical solutions with a detailed multi-work stream project plan and timeline and milestones requires an experienced Solution Architect Technical lead. Ensuring quality is maintained is also key and this role will be critical in enabling that objective is met. This is a high demand skill in the market with limited availability of properly skilled individuals.
This role will require the jobholder to leverage past technical experience in the big data area to apply to R&D challenges. The role will require the application of a number of emerging technologies and architectures to develop working prototypes of solutions.
This role requires interaction with process owners across Pharma R&D teams. Success will only be achieved through the influencing of these process owners to agree to develop a pilot data solution as a mechanism to address a current need. In order to successfully influence these stakeholders, and deliver on the roles expectations and responsibilities, a strong set of executive communication skills will be required.
Have a ‘can do’ attitude, helping the organization to develop new ways of working, flex between approaches and deal with ambiguity while directing others.
Pharma R&D is a global organization and the staff involved is located in multiple countries and represent many cultures. Additionally, the corporate cultures of external contractors and providers must also be managed.
The impact of this work is in the timely delivery of Data CoE solutions and working prototypes. The jobholder will be required to support other team members in the CoE across a varied collection of technical opportunities.
