*Provide Cloud DBA support for NGA and AA application databases in RDS at AWS. Need to support new and migration work.
*Looking for an motivated, experienced contractor Application or Systems DBA, to provide database management support for relational databases being migratedfrom on-premise platforms to AWS or new RDS instances being created at AWS. As a member of the Cloud Data Architecture Team, the Databaseadministrator is responsible for the care and feeding of Vanguard’s cloud relational database systems.Responsibilities
* Primary support for Vanguard’s cloud database environment. This will include on-call rotational support.•
*Database maintenance for Vanguard’s cloud database instances, including sizing and provisioning, index maintenance and monitoring of logsand database alarms.
* Assisting Application development teams with complex database queries and reports as needed.• Assist application development teams with sizing/tuning the RDS instances• Assist the team with developing the “least required security” models for managing security in AWS• Assist the team with basic and enhanced monitoring standards for AWS resources• Provide recommendations for database high availability and recoverability.• Provide recommendations for use of new AWS options as they become available.Qualifications:• At least three years of experience as an application/or systems DBA, with an understanding of:o Designing schema, access patterns, locking strategy, and proactive tuning techniques for relational database management systems(e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Servero Excellent understanding of SQL and building complex queries.o Parameter configuration and tuning.o Memory and Cache management for relational database systems.o IO Tuning/Scaling• Experience with the AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) to include knowledge of:o AWS Management Console for RDSo CloudWatch monitoring and alertingo AWS Cloud Formation Templateso Benefits/advantages of different AWS storage and RDS engine typeso Amazon Read Replicas, ElastiCache and other in-memory optioniso Writing cloud formation templates for RDSo Multi-region availability support.o AWS in-flight and at-rest encryption options.o Experience with AWS Aurora a plus.Preferred:• AWS Solutions Architect or Developer certification• Experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL database engines."
