Short Description:
The Software Developer/Programmer (SDP) converts data from project specifications and statements of problems and procedures to create or modify computer programs.

Complete Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual that works well with business customers and team members. This individual will need to be comfortable doing senior level application support including: writing ADS/O and COBOL programming, working with IDMS and DB2 and modifying JCL and Parms for a large, highly visible state agency. The individual must be a self-starter, who is willing to be flexible and research multiple complicated legacy systems to meet agency needs as well as Federal and State requirements. The individual must be willing to step up and ask questions or raise important issues when others hesitate. This role will assume team technical leadership responsibilities of providing oversight and mentoring of new or lower-level developers as well as all members of the team. This individual may also be required to work some off hour shifts and be on call. This job offers the opportunity to continue to expand and improve mainframe skills while being fiscally responsible.

Preference will be given to individuals with prior State government experience.

Responsibilities

Perform Mainframe development with COBOL, IDMS, ADS/O, CICS, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, Panvalet, MVS JCL, PROCs and PARMS
Comprehend complex technical and logical concepts and adapt quickly to change
Build solutions that cross multiple compute platforms (Mainframe CICS/Batch jobs and MS Windows servers) using batch processing techniques
Prioritize and manage concurrent projects, demonstrate initiative and function independently as well as part of a team
Accurately prepare written documentation that is coherent, grammatically correct, effective and professional
Participate in all aspects of SDLC including design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance of complex mainframe applications
Complete assignments within the specified project timelines
Schedule and coordinate the development, testing, and implementation of systems
Manage and report time spent on all work activities
Communicate accurate and useful status updates
