Business Intelligence Data Modeler
This is a short-term position within the Enterprise Information Systems office at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI and requires limited review/supervision of technical recommendations and solutions by supervisor. This position provides Information Systems (IS) guidance, advice and technical services which require system analysis and programming skills, communication skills, and thorough knowledge of the business processes being supported, specifically providing support for data warehousing and reporting as Stout migrates from Hyperion Interactive Reporting to Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE Analyze the physical and logical database models and convert existing Hyperion reports into OBIEE. Analyze and resolve any data load failures or data retrieval issues. Provide technical support and assist end-users with report development in OBIEE. GOALS AND ACTIVITIES 100% B. PROVIDE DEVELOPMENT OF DATA WAREHOUSE/ REPORTING ENVIROMENTS AND RELATED TECHNOLOGIES SUPPORT 1. Migrate, design, develop and maintain Data Warehousing Systems, Reporting Data System (RDS), Hyperion Interactive Reporting and OBIEE, specifically migrating existing Hyperion reports to OBIEE. 2. Create and develop/modify program documentation by following department standards. 3. Perform detailed analysis and design for specialized, business related, complex automated systems; develop specifications, develop test conditions and monitor and troubleshoot the developed systems. 4. Develop and maintain reporting solutions as identified by end-user departments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of system analysis and design techniques • Knowledge of computer applications, systems programming and database management system principles • Knowledge of SQL based database management systems (i.e. SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, etc • Familiarity with relational database models and database concepts • Knowledge of network computing environments • Ability to develop effective solutions for application and data issues • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form • Knowledge of project management concepts, techniques and tools • Knowledge of reporting tools (i.e. OBIEE, Hyperion, Data Analyzer, Crystal Reports, Access, Cognos, Business Objects, etc • Ability to learn new computer languages and software • Ability to develop project tasks, timelines, resources assignments, etc • Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment • Ability to multi-task and meet multiple project deadlines • Ability to work independently and/or work as a team member on assigned projects • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Provide support for data warehousing initiatives and monitor data warehousing system to ensure reliability and accuracy of information loaded into the databases. Analyze the logical and physical database models and ensure models are in accordance with standards. Generate and prepare reports to support business objectives. Perform analysis and testing of relational databases and investigate any data load failures or data retrieval issues. Career-Level position within field. Requires experience and proficiency in discipline. Conducts complex work important to the organization. Works with minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. Typically requires six to nine years experience or equivalent education. Migrating from Hyperion Interactive Reporting to OBIEE. Migration is well underway, need assistance to complete data modeling and report migration in a more timely manner.
Experience in higher education preferred. 6-month engagement, on-site.
