Can you tell me a little bit about the project that this contractor will be working on and what is creating the need for this position?
The company is building out a data lake in AWS as part of a transition to utilizing a big data infrastructure. We have a team of capable engineers but we’ve never done this before. We’d like to bring someone on who has broad experience with the AWS ecosystem and an understanding of best practices to help bootstrap the team and guide us toward success.

What does a typical day look like?
This position will work in our downtown Portland office alongside our software engineers, site reliability engineers, architects, and director. The team works in a Kanban style with two week sprint cycles, bi-weekly retrospectives, and weekly planning sessions. The rest of the time is devoted to engineering work which may include pairing, or ad-hoc planning sessions. This will be an advisory role so a good candidate will be running some of these sessions themselves.
We use JIRA for ticket tracking and Confluence for documentation. A mac laptop will be provided for development for the duration of the engagement.

Does your team work standard core hours or does that vary?
Yes, the team works a standard day, M-F approximately 9-5.
