IIT, Network & Telecommunications Services is seeking to hire a talented and multi-faceted Assistant Director, Network Engineering who will provide day-to-day leadership and management for the Network Engineering team. This position will be responsible for the diagnosis and repair of the GSU network data and voice networks. The incumbent of this position will share responsibility for the Data Center operations with the Assistant Director of Enterprise Computing. This position will also be responsible for coordination of facility related areas (e. g. power, cooling, floor space planning), network monitoring and response and managing on-call rotation. Additional responsibilities include developing and managing operational procedures required for the primary data center, secondary sites and remotes sites. Managing the co-location and hosting environments in support of systems encompassing instructional research and administrative requirement of the university. The position ensures adherence to technology standards and policies, and pursues continuous improvement in services and cost effectiveness.

Effective leadership of team members and resources as well as the ability to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve departmental goals and initiatives is key to this role. This position will have hiring authority for all subordinate positions.
Provide leadership and direct diagnosis and repair and return to service of all the centrally managed network equipment and voice communications systems to ensure their continued reliability and availability. Leads the technical decisions affecting network and telecom infrastructure and underlying systems. Manage, mentor and develop staff resources to meet the changing technology requirements of the University. Manage employees and provide on-call support, duties and rotation in support of 24x7x365 operations for critical systems and services. Develop training plans and prepare performance reviews.
Guides development and achievement of strategic planning and departmental goals in support of the university. Provide leadership for the engineering and design of new network services or modification to existing network services of all centrally managed network equipment and voice communications systems. Analyze and prioritize tasks and redirect resources when necessary to efficiently utilize resources and meet mission requirements.
Generate system activity, metrics, performance reports, and perform initial analysis. Produce after Action Reports including root cause analysis for service impacting events. Manages and maintains a scorecard for the unit. Develops, maintains and updates processes and procedures to achieve organizational improvements and effectiveness.
Manage and prepare budgets and manage business unit costs. Manage and maintain vendor relationships and negotiate for improved pricing. Coordinate with subcontractors and external service providers.
Provide leadership for the operation and administration of all data center-hosting environments, secondary sites and remote campuses, to ensure availability, monitoring and security of IIT centrally managed systems. Managing the co-location and hosting environments of the data center including power, cooling, floor planning and security of the space. Ensures audit compliance and coordinates associated maintenance of hardware and software inventory. Assists in the development and implementation of Georgia State's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Provide project leadership for implementation of approved changes validated through the organization's change management process. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure appropriate management and completion of all projects, implementations and maintenance.
Track and analyze network technology trends, prepare recommendation, and prepare cost estimates for new network technologies, technology replacement, upgrade or reconfiguration to meet customer current and anticipated solution requirements.
Perform other professional duties or projects as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and five years of supervisory/management experience, or combination of education and related experience.  

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

The preferred candidate should possess the following attributes,
Masters degree or higher in engineering, computer science or related field
3+ years of managerial/supervisory experience
8+ years of relevant technical experience
Expertise in voice systems, wireless, LAN, WAN, firewalls, routing, switching, network security and associated monitoring tools

Experience managing data center operations and facilities
Advanced knowledge of networking technologies, topologies and protocols
Knowledge of industry standards and common operating procedures
Ability to diagnose complex problems for resolution

Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.   Works well with others and fosters collaboration with team members, colleagues, other departments and stakeholders.   Able to communicate and execute the strategic direction of the department

Excellent organizational and time management skills.   Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Experience with incident response, implementation of best practices, vulnerability management and analyzing network traffic and event logs

Proven experience in designing and writing proposals, recommendations and business cases
Experience writing RFPs, RFQs, and/or RFQCs
Project management skills desired

Ability to work flexible and extended schedule including nights and weekends to support implementations and incident response as needed
