Position Summary

Georgia State's central technology services group, Instructional Innovation & Technology (IIT), is looking to find a
dynamic and highly motivated employee. IIT is responsible for providing cutting-edge centralized technology services
to the Georgia State University community. Recent and current major initiatives are the migration to Microsoft 365,
cloud computing, and iPad registration for students.

The Opportunity:

The Application Developer Lead is a professional, staff position within Application Engineering.   The fundamental
responsibility is development, implementation, and/or maintenance (i. e. , support & repair) of application-based
solutions.   This includes responsibilities and deliverables that span all phases of the application development
lifecycle (SDLC Individuals in the Application Developer Lead position usually desire to pursue a technical career
path. However, they must possess strong leadership skills.   The scope of responsibility will include theses essential
duties, but is not limited to, the following,


Knowledgeable of enterprise level development practices, policies and standards as well as information technology service management processes.  


Responsibilities and deliverables span all phases of the software development life-cycle (SDLC) including:
Requirements Analysis

Design Development

Testing 


Deployment

Maintenance (i. e. , support & repairs)

Responsible for occasionally instructing, directing, mentoring, training, and checking the work of lower level staff as
well as making project task assignments under the direction of the manager. Confers with and advises on policy and
procedure, internal business processes, priorities, and problems.

Responds to customer reports of problems, system performance anomalies, and /or general inquiries.   Includes
application code troubleshooting and design, programming, testing, and debugging of application patches/fixes.  

Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding.   Includes analysis and
documentation of business processes and functional requirements.  

Considers the business implications of the application of technology to the business environment.  

Translates functional requirements and prepares detailed program specifications from which programs will be
written.   Work products may include feasibility studies, white papers, time/cost estimates, etc.

Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.

Occasionally responsible for identifying appropriate resources needed, developing project plan/schedule, scheduling
and facilitating project meetings, coordinating activities of project team, and reporting project status to both
management and customer.

Participates in meetings and communicates regularly with both management and customer regarding project and/or
application support activity status.

May provide version control and configuration control for application supported by the team.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

The preferred candidate should possess the following attributes,  

Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience

Demonstrable experience with LAMP or WAMP stack server-side application development

Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery

Knowledge of relational database design and queries (Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server)

GIT

Strong grasp of security principles and how they apply to sensitive data web applications

Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Additionally, candidates will be giving consideration for the following as well,

Proficient with enterprise level development practices, policies and standards as well as information technology
service management processes.

Possesses sufficient knowledge and expertise to work independently within the design, development, testing,
deployment, and maintenance phases of the SDLC on projects of any size and/or complexity.  

With general direction, is competent within the requirements analysis phase of the SDLC on small to medium sized
projects and/or maintenance activities.  

Demonstrated proficiency with industry best practices, tools, and techniques utilized within the design, development,
and testing phases of the SDLC.

Is able to effectively facilitate small to medium sized meetings involving technical subject matter.

Possesses sufficient knowledge and expertise to serve in the role of project manager and independently lead
technology-focused projects not involving significant requirements analysis and/or business process change.

Possesses extensive knowledge and demonstrated expertise with regard to relevant application technology within
the applicable domain area within Application Engineering.
