Position: AWS Platform Engineer

Notes from manager call: DevOps centric- AWS, kubernetes, jenkins, autoscaling, automation, CI/CD. Nice to Have: Big Data (huge plus)
Platform Architecture & Operations
Types of Work – Enterpise level – Senior roles – Hands on:
Log Events for centralized view to do monitoring in large enterprise context
Several efforts CI/CD EC2 to Jenkins Pipelines and elastically provisioned automation
Build Scala Builds
Docker Images, new image version.
Code all comes from Bit Bucket (Code repository)
S3 will house docker images
Periodically rebuild amazon images, gold copies. Fully up to date with security patches.
We are working on networking side of that infrastructure, inside and external. Working with elements and application load balancing that can authenticate and act as forwarding agents.
Nice to have - Have not started is build out analytics tools within AWS like anaconda enterprise to provide those features back to data science.
Work on the Platform Operations Team – need to know what kind of configuration apply. Know what optimization flags to turn on, etc.
Specialized skills we want them to have.
Security first – Private within in the cloud. VERY IMPORTANT
Connections back to AT&T data centers with lots of liabilities, so security matters a LOT.
Comfortable working with different accounts for different security roles.
Knowledge customer managed keys and key managed within AWS, custom key generation
Always leverage connections between two different points.
S3 we don’t go through public so all paths are private for EMR Clusters
Limited size VPC peering between our own or via private link.
Private DNS, route S3 configurations.
Rapid Process R A P I D - Deployment Methodologies - Experience with RAPID?
Use terraform with BIT.
Automate the terraform build and apply with Jenkins process.
Everything we do that way, safely. Build it back in terraform and deploy it out new with a new version.
Summary:
Expectation on skills, very high familiarity with AWS for securing AWS management, Private link, VPC peering, familiar with identity realms, Identity realms, building back into terraform.
