Updates from previous candidates: New grads with Engineering degrees are ideal as they can be grown to take on a role in Upgrade Operations but a degree is definitely not required for the System Administrator I role. Candidates without a bachelor''s degree should have at least a Comp TIA Network + certification or CCNA and should be comfortable with using virtual clients or servers. All candidates should also be able to communicate well with other on their team and more importantly with a customer/end user so some service industry experience is not viewed poorly. Due to the work being done in Elgin, candidates should ideally not need to travel far to get to work since we don''t want people getting burn out with the commute or having difficulties arriving to work due to weather conditions.



Work Schedule: M-F 8 hour work with occasional late nights (HM would like candidate to live close)

Preferred Education/background

Bachelor''s Degree in IT related field(Electrical Engineering, CompSci, Computer Engineering) or 2 year associate''s in electronics and at least one network certification for example: Network+, CCNA, Security+, or related certification



Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

The Remote Security Update Service (RSUS) team applies monthly and quarterly Operating System Security patch updates to P25 Astro systems throughout North America and South America. As part of the team you will apply Windows OS updates to customer devices on a Monthly basis. On a quarterly basis you will apply ESXi (VMware), Red Hat Linux, Dot Hill DAS, and McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) security patches. You will be required to troubleshoot any issues related to applying the patches, and working with development and Level 2 support teams as needed to resolve any issues. The RSUS team provides reports to customers and Motorola field teams of system patching status upon completion of applying patch updates. RSUS team members coordinate patching schedules with Motorola field teams, explaining the patch update process and communicating expected system impacts during patching.



Duties may also include:

Perform preventative maintenance system checks to ensure proper system operation

May have to work evening hours from time to time (10% - 15%) to apply patch updates during customer maintenance windows

Developing, maintaining, and updating internal process documentation

Working on process improvement initiatives throughout the year



Preferred Knowledge/Skills

knowledge of IT systems such as IP Networking, VMware (Vsphere), and remote access protocols (SSH, RDP, SCP), ESXi (VMware), Red Hat Linux

Computer literate with proficiency in Windows Office Suite, Windows OS, and Google applications Suite

Must have self-management skills and people skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams

Able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations

Excellent communication and customer service skills to promote and demonstrate an attitude of teamwork, cooperation, and customer service

Must be able to work well in a group setting, collaborating with other team members to resolve technical issues

Promptly respond to customer needs in a professional and enthusiastic manner
