The Solaris/Linux Engineer will contribute in the development and maintenance of the enterprise Unix environment. The Engineer will be responsible for the support and development of systems, process and technologies that support the development, test and production environments. This position requires functional and technical skills and the ability to build strong relationships that will help deliver value for the organization. The Engineer will be responsible for developing processes to support the business needs by maintaining Unix systems following best practices and standards. The individual will be responsible for providing support as a level II or III tier and as needed. The Engineer will work on project and enhancements along with a team of project managers, analysts, engineers and architects. The individual will have the technical proficiency to recommend, develop and deliver quality solutions across the enterprise.

Responsibilities


Understand and configure sysctl, cron, syslog, and key networking configuration capabilities in Linux
Create and maintain Linux images in Docker
Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
Troubleshoot applications running on Linux platforms including JBoss EAP and JBoss Fuse
Work with DBAs troubleshooting performance challenges and outages in both Linux and Solaris environments running Oracle, MongoDB and Postgres databases
Be on-call (rotating schedule) to support critical infrastructure issues


Required


Experience with Linux servers (RHEL and CentOS 6 and 7) in VMWare Environment
Experience with Solaris Virtualization (Solaris 10 and 11)
Excellent proficiency in Shell Scripting
Proficiency in other scripting languages such as Python
Experience with ZFS, ext4 and xfs filesystems
Experience installing, configuring and maintaining file sharing services such as Samba and NFS
Strong network and system resource troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with AWS and GCP
Experience using configuration management tools, such as Ansible and Puppet
Bachelors in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other technical field


Preferred


Familiarity with CIS system hardening and standards
Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining applications such as JBoss, Apache, MySQL, nginx, etc.
Proficient with ITIL standards for Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Capacity Management and Configuration Management
Ability to build and monitor services on production servers
Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker is a plus
