My love of teaching and computers go hand in hand. I first started teaching computers at age 9, when I took a community class for 6 months, spending the first half learning what they had to teach about computers and simple programming, and the second half getting paid to teach the other kids how to program in Logo®! After a short detour in college as a radio/TV major I returned to my passion for teaching, certifying to teach high school science and getting my Masters in Education. After university I wasn't able to find anyone who wanted me to explain mitosis to 17-year olds, so I started working at New Horizons, which gave me the opportunity to deepen my understanding of applications, web design, and databases. This then led to an opportunity to start working there as a technical trainer. I started in the Microsoft arena, lightening the load of Windows NT for the other instructors so they could move on to Windows 2000. Later, as new content became available, I was always the guy who couldn't say no, who was willing to take on the new technology and master it. Over time, my repertoire included Servers, Desktops, SQL databases, SharePoint Web Sites, Security and Cisco routers and switches. In addition to working as a trainer, I supported the internal IT network at New Horizons and worked in a partnership providing I.T. expertise to small and midsize companies.

I've never been satisfied with just a cursory understanding of technology, so I do my best to really comprehend all the moving parts. I've found that this level of insight allows me the comfort level I need to field all the great questions students throw my way. My passion in teaching is tied to sharing the way that information moves and is interconnected; life is full of workflows, if you just know where to look. I believe that each of us with a computer has an access point to an amazing invisible world, and our courses help you to get the most out of it. I look forward to having you join us in a class soon!
