Job Description :
Hands-on reports/dashboards Development:
· Must be able to author basic reports in Cognos and Troubleshooting capabilities in Cognos reporting tier
· Experience in building complex dashboards with rich visualizations and complex data sets is highly desired.
Modeling – Cognos and general DW (Design & build Cognos models / Framework Models (both DMR and Relational models); Ability to diagnose the issues in a model; Experience with key tools / Settings in Cognos models (e.g. Governor Settings, Dynamic Query Analyzer, Implications of Dynamic Query mode):
· Must be able to design and build a Cognos Framework model with a scalable Physical, Logical and Presentation layers.
· Accurate Relationship mappings, prevention of unions, stitches, unions, nested datasets, et al
· Must understand basic governor settings, server versus database side processing; DMR versus relational, pitfalls of DQM; Use of a DQ Analyzer to isolate issues
· Must be able to quickly ”visualize” the SQL getting passed to the database, understanding the WHERE, SELECT, GROUP BY, RANK/ORDER and aggregation functions and on what tables – based solely on the input prompts and the output layout
Experience with API development/usage to interact with Cognos:
· Must be able to use APIs programmatically to interact with Cognos (See Section on Integration)
Cognos Administration:
· Must be able write complex, extensible and reusable batch scripts (in MS DOS, WScript) for domain monitoring, domain recycling and operational scripts to build cubes, run and burst reports and sequence them correctly in the scheduling software
· Must be able to administer a Cognos Environment single handedly, if needed – Installation, Configuration, Administration
Communication Skills:
· Must have client and stakeholder interaction abilities and working with Cross functional teams.
· Must be able to talk to Report Authors in their own lingo
Understanding of the new technologies in BI/Analytics world:
· Desired experience with latest Business Intelligence and analytical technologies (Ex: Analytics, Big Data, Statistics, Algorithms, and Cloud computing etc
