Role:- DB2 Database Administrator
Scope/JD:
The Lead Database Engineer will be part of the Global Database Engineering team, which is responsible for all the aspects of database administration on production environments. The responsibilities include design and maintenance of database infrastructure and customer environments as part of a managed hosting solution. Daily responsibilities include providing top level escalation support for SAVVIS Hosting Operations Engineers and SAVVIS hosting/Platinum support customers in their DB2 UDB Environment. He or she will also be responsible for installation, implementing High availability database environments, trouble tickets and troubleshooting of highly critical production environment with 99.99% uptime. He or she will also be involved in database performance tuning, implementing backup solutions and capacity planning. This person will work closely with other DBAs in a global team as well as application, systems operations and engineering teams. The Engineer will be working in majority with DB2 UDB Version 10.1 and above in a Linux environment.
Skills:
Basic RedHat/Linux or Solaris Administration
Shell Scripting knowledge to automate day to day tasks.
DB2 UDB Certification
Exposure to Oracle/MySQL would get preference.
Database Migration using various strategies between different version and OS
Good Project management skills
Four years college degree in computer science or equivalent
Details:
7+ years of experience in Database Administration/support in DB2 UDB RDBMS in production environment
Must have worked supporting DB2 in a WCS (Websphere Commerce Server) environment.
Excellent understanding of how WCS interacts with DB2 UDB and understanding of the entities in the database.
Proficient in building DB2 new databases, migrations and upgrade in DB2 10.1
Understanding of Backup/Recovery features and ability to recover without assistance in case of disaster
Experience in setting up HADR with multiple auxiliary standby databases.
Experience in automatic as well as manual switchover/failover in HADR
Must have experience with TSAMP in a production environment
Excellent communication skills. Candidate should be able to lead customer calls with multiple teams.
Experience in Performance tuning. Should be able to narrow down the cause of performance bottlenecks.
Maintain 99.99% availability for all Savvis Hosting products and infrastructure
Interface with other central organizations to improve and implement process, procedures and automation.
Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
Provide 24x7 escalation supports for DB2 UDB environment.
Participating in an on-call rotation schedule every 3rd week. Offshore team provides support during US night hours 7 days a week.
Documenting the support procedure, change requests
Strong listening and communication skills.
Understand company policies and procedures and work within given SLOs
Work closely with other teams within company and with customer.
Quick learner and Self-starter - can quickly learn different features/technologies that customer need in their environment without much supervision.
