Background with large scale complex applications architecture management and delivery.
Skills with many applications and many architectures is better than a single architecture or limited set of architectures.
Has to know what works and where applications can get in trouble and bog down.
Solid technical application architect- has played a hands-on role for a significant part of their career.
Ideal candidate: understands Client server apps/ focus on Microsoft technologies stack.

High value skills: data skills, activity management and influence, able to deliver and support technical activities around root cause analysis and causal analysis.

Solution Architect

The Solution Architect (SA) is responsible to design, and guide design, maintain and optimize the Divisions IT systems architecture in a capacity to support project teams in developing an optimized balance among technical soundness, time to market, overall quality and cost of projects. The SAs work is guided and aligns with the Business Technology Strategy (BTS) and by the Enterprise Architecture Principles. In collaboration with other IT architects (enterprise, infrastructure, information, security, and other solutions architects), the SA is responsible for the creation or the validation of the architectural design supporting the Divisions projects. The SA must ensure that solutions are not designed in isolation, and that the clients systems are taking full advantages of various reusable components across IT, and in accordance with the Enterprise Architecture Principles.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Ensure that all Divisions projects are supported by a solution architecture that maximizes reusability from or by other projects, included by or from other Divisions.
Assess Enterprise Architecture alignment of all major projects (known as EA Rating Process) and monitor compliance during project life cycle.

Select projects that ought to be reviewed by EARB at critical stages of the project. Assist project teams to prepare for EARB reviews.
Foster high degree of discipline regarding integration between systems, duplication of data, overlap of technology and other cross-application considerations.

Maintain accurate documentation of the Divisions IT System Map.
Monitor the Divisions Portfolio for upgrade, rationalization or retirement opportunities. Communicate priorities based on maintenance cost, usage and age of the concerning systems.
Stay involved, and if require coordinate the update and communication of the Divisions projects roadmap regularly to maintain good awareness of the Divisions architectural landscape.

Ensure that Enterprise Architect, Information Architect, Security Architect, Infrastructure Architect and other Solutions Architects are involved early on between IPLC Stage Gate #2 and #3.
Maintain awareness at the Enterprise Architecture level of all reusable assets of the Division (web services, code, scripts, other APIs)

Maintain awareness of platforms and other IT Systems vendors roadmap (where applicable), and monitor related risks and opportunities for the organization.
Promote CMDB (app registry) for high quality and up to date information.
Propose - and participate to the resolution of - cross-divisional architectural issues.

Participate in the review of Business Capability Roadmaps (for the capabilities relevant to the Division), and assist the Enterprise Architect to identify gaps in the IMF IT systems roadmaps.
Identify innovation opportunities within the Division.
Provide educated advice to the Divisions management team regarding EA strategic directions.
Responsible for analyzing, studying, proposing and planning for potential future architectural trends and changes.
