POSITION OVERVIEW
Individuals performing in the Senior SQL Server Architect role recommend and technical solutions for clients that address practical, daily needs for real-world challenges, and are focused on delivering a flexible and robust technical architecture for their clients.
The Senior SQL Server Architect is a technical position, that may require client-facing on occasion. This position should focus on architecturally significant and outstanding SQL Server 2014 & 2016 skills, including advanced integration approaches, company-wide standards, tuning and enterprise data warehouse guidance. This professional should also have knowledge of data analysis, end user requirements analysis, and business requirements analysis to ensure a clear understanding of the business needs and to incorporate these needs into technical solutions. They should have an advanced understanding of physical database design principles and system development life cycle. This role usually functions as a lead member of an agile team. These individuals must work well in a team environment, but be comfortable enough in their skillset to deliver independently if needed.
As a senior consultant, the successful candidate will work with our customers and business partners both on short-term assignments to provide SQL Server expertise, as well as longer-term efforts to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the customer''s expectations.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The client has requested a senior, skilled and experienced SQL Server 2014 – 2016 resource to lead in re-architecture and re-development of their system and provide guideance and mentorship to their less-experienced SQL resources. This resource should be heavily experienced with Microsoft SQL Server 2014- 2016, including designing and developing solutions from architecture through implementation and support. The Senior SQL Server architect will be responsible for working with the business to ensure understanding of the requirements and developing the solution. Additionally, the SQL Server developer will be responsible peer reviewing deliverables from the rest of the SQL Server team and providing feedback to those team members to enforce standards and performance. Further, this resource will be responsible for presenting solutions, demonstrations and proof of concepts to business users for evaluation and approval.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understanding of data warehousing principles and concepts, including methodologies such as Kimball and Inmon.
- Monitoring performance and advising any necessary infrastructure changes as it relates to SQL Server.
- Work closely with client stakeholders, architects, analysts and SMEs to validate and/or elicit information requirements for database design and architecture.
- Analyze source data to assist in preparing iterative design changes, database refactorings, and creating or modifying reference data
- Prepare, maintain and publish data model diagrams, dictionaries, scripts and metadata files in accordance with project methodology and collaboration guidelines
- Collect, analyze and prepare data volumetrics to support database sizing, tuning, capacity planning and data retention activities
- Maintain knowledge of client’s business models, business processes and procedures, as well as applicable regulatory compliance requirements which impact data management requirements for the in-scope solution design
- Evaluate third-party solutions for data integration issues and architecture standards compliance as necessary
- Provide SQL Server SSIS architecture leadership within the consultant team as well as to client or third-party resources
- Effectively communicate SQL Server SSIS architecture and approaches to the customer, third parties and the project teams
- Provide competency in problem solving, data analysis, business rule validation, data integration, data quality, dependency analysis and estimation and delivery of complex SQL Server SSIS solutions.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- 7+ years IT experience across Information Technology domains of data or information architecture, solution architecture, and/or application development
- At least 7 years of experience in the following technologies: SQL Server, including v2014 & v2016
- At least 5 years of experience using leveraging SQL Server Integration Services as a mechanic for moving data between systems and implementing data cleansing and merging capaiblities.
- Must have design and development experience with SQL Server 2014 –v2016
- Must have experience interacting with SaaS data sources {MUST}
- At least 3 year of experience performing conceptual and logical data modeling
- Experience with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, MS Office suite
- Experience using project / workgroup collaboration tools (MS Sharepoint preferred)
- Knowledge of data quality, data profiling and self-service discovery and data preparation techniques
- Excellent listening skills, interpersonal skills, ability to analyze data and test data against business rules
- Ability to facilitate discussions and drive toward quick decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be comfortable working from home, and ability to self-manage timelines and deliverables without oversight.
- Must be willing to travel up to 40% of the time for the duration of the project.
- Preference towards being based in Charlotte, NC. If NC is not an option, resource must physically reside on US East Coast.
DESIRABLE
- Design and development experience with SQL Server 2016
- General and broad understanding of most industries
- 5+ years’ experience as an Information or Data Architect role in a consulting environment, including time supporting sales and managing technical staff and implementations
- Experience working in multiple database environments (IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL, Teradata etc)
- Experience working with data discovery tools such as Qlikview or Tableau
- Experience working with PL/SQL
- Experience working with model management tools
