Organizational Status
This position reports to the ITS – Operations Manager and periodically works with Infrastructure and Security engineering teams
Responsibilities
Provide systems and services expertise and drive operational best practices.
Ensure 24/7 availability of the production servers and applications within a team environment.
Resolves tier 2 and 3 incidents and requests.
Requires on-call availability on team rotation outside of normal business hours.
Develop automation tools and processes to help scale operations.
Proactively monitor and audit the health and availability of systems.
Responsibility for Disaster Recovery testing and restoration of critical services during DR events.
Participate in capacity and scalability planning.
Research, develop, and implement new technologies and practices.
Mentor junior systems administrators.
Work with technical writers to develop internal SOPs and Service handbooks for key systems and services.
Occasionally partner with the engineering, infrastructure, security and project management teams to help implement new systems and improve existing ones.
Ability to leverage appropriate technical tools with direction to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as back up, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring
Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships, inside and outside of teams, interacting in a friendly, open, honest, and accepting manner.
Required Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering Discipline, or relevant experience.
5+ years total experience with systems administration, as well as hardware and software troubleshooting.
Strong Unix/Linux administration experience.
Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and HyperV
Experience with DNS and DHCP technologies.
Knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Perl scripting)
Experience with system performance monitoring & fine tuning.
Experience with back up technologies.
Experience writing detailed and clear procedures and documentations that are easy to follow.
Advanced industry certifications such as RHCE, LFCE, etc.
Strong problem solving skills: innovation, collaboration, analysis.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and drive to be successful; ability to work independently with minimal supervision or assistance.
Skills that are considered a plus
Windows server 2008, 2012 administration experience.
Experience working with SAN/NAS storage environments.
Additional advanced certifications (i.e. Microsoft, VMWare, etc
ITIL certification or working knowledge of it
Service now experience
